The company

Based in Rheinfelden, the Feldschlösschen company is the leading brewery and the largest drinks retailer in Switzerland. Its core business includes the production, marketing and sale of beer and soft drinks throughout the country.

The challenge

In celebration of a brewing tradition stretching back more than 135 years, Feldschlösschen brewed an exclusive “Theophil Vintage Edition” speciality beer on the hundredth anniversary of its art nouveau brewhouse. This special mash is bottled off in 500 numbered flagons as a limited-edition treat for beer connoisseurs.

Theophil No. 1

Not only did we design the first bottle for the collector’s edition in 2009, we also developed the entire product identity, from the classic lines of the bottle to the packaging and the product booklet.

Theophil No. 2

For the 2011 special edition, the brewers have used an old recipe that combines a dark beer with Fricktal cherries. The golden printwork on the glass and the pyrogravure stamp on the wooden presentation box take their inspiration from old printing techniques. The eponymous Theophil Roniger, one of Feldschlösschen’s founding fathers, appears in portrait on both editions.

An exceptionally well-presented design that takes account not only of traditional values but also of this edition’s claim to exclusivity.
